Municipalities Must Act Now

After everything that has happened, Ontario is still claiming glyphosate poses “no unacceptable risks” while approving forest spraying throughout the summer. Do words, public opposition, Indigenous rights, municipal resolutions and current science mean nothing?

For nearly 40 years, people and Indigenous communities have opposed the chemical spraying of Ontario’s public forests. Yet the government continues killing naturally regenerating broadleaf trees, shrubs, berries and medicinal plants to favour commercially valuable conifers, creating flammable conifer plantations. 🔥🔥🔥

Talk to your municipal council. Ask them to stand with generations of opposition and pass a resolution calling for an end to Chemical Forestry.

Beyond Words: What Land acknowledgments Truly Require

Many Ontario municipalities begin their meetings by reading Land acknowledgments. But reconciliation requires more than words. Indigenous communities and Traditional Ecological Knowledge elders have led the resistance against chemical forestry for nearly forty years. Municipalities that acknowledge Indigenous lands should also stand with those communities by actively opposing the continued use of chemical herbicides on those same territories.
